Suzy Davies AM
Assembly Member for South Wales West.
Shadow Minister for Education and Welsh Language. The Leader's Diversity Champion.
Suzy was first elected in 2011 and was returned as one of four regional AMs for South Wales West in 2016.
After a career in marketing and management which began at Swansea Grand Theatre, Suzy, a fluent Welsh speaker, practiced as a high street solicitor for many years. She is married to Geraint who runs the family tourism and agriculture business, and they have two sons.
Suzy has also trained as a mentor to work with young offenders and vulnerable families and in addition has been a trustee of a number of children’s projects and volunteered with community support groups. She has also been a member of two health focus groups and has served as a community councillor and a school governor. Suzy has written for various publications and was one of the founding board members of the Welsh International Film Festival.
Suzy has actively campaigned against the closure of community hospitals and post offices; she has worked on flooding matters across the region; she has fought for safe routes to schools and achieved a changed in the law in Wales; Suzy has also campaigned to improve the local economy of Bridgend town centre. Suzy has also worked with local businesses to encourage the use of Welsh in every day settings.
Since the National Assembly election in 2016 Suzy has been the Welsh Conservatives’ Spokesperson for Social Services, Broadcasting and Welsh Language.
In 2018, Suzy stood as one of the candidates in the contest to become the Leader of Welsh Conservatives.
Following the contest, Suzy was made Shadow Minister for Education and Welsh Language, and appointed the Leader's Diversity Champion. She is also the spokesperson for the Swansea Bay City Deal.
She currently sits on the Assembly’s Constitutional & Legislative Affairs Committee, and the Children, Young People, & Education Committee as well as chairing the Cross Party Group on Tourism. She is also the Chair of Women2Win Wales which aims to encourage more women to stand for the Conservative Party.
In addition to this she is one of four Assembly Commissioners and takes the lead on pensions and the Assembly estate’s financial matters.
Suzy has written for a number of publications including the Institute of Welsh Affairs, Brexit Central, the Centre for Welsh Studies, and Conservative Home, and has spoken on panels for the Electoral Reform Society and Tory Reform Group. She is also the Chair of Women2Win Wales which aims to encourage more women to stand for the Conservative Party.
