The Welsh Government is to introduce a gradual reduction in the charge on the sale of park homes.
Currently park home residents are required to pay up to a 10% commission to the site owner – a charge which was last reviewed in 1983, when it was brought down from 15%.
Welsh Conservatives have consistently opposed the levy and leader, Andrew RT Davies, held an event in the National Assembly last year so home residents could meet Assembly Members to discuss the issue.
And today the Welsh Government has released a statement outlining plans to commence a phased reduction of the commission rate over a period of time.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Andrew RT Davies AM, said:
“Welsh Conservatives across the country have long opposed and campaigned against this levy and we are pleased the government has listened to these concerns.
“We wouldn’t accept the council charging a 10% levy on the sale of our home, on top of monthly charges like council tax, so why should park home residents have to tolerate it?
“However, whilst today’s announcement by the Minister is a welcome step, the reduction and new rules must be well thought through.
“We remain of the belief that this fee should be scrapped completely sooner rather than later, and park home residents will not accept these changes if they lead the difference being applied to higher pitch fees.”
