The Welsh Conservatives have today responded to the announcement of the Welsh Government’s preferred route for the third Menai crossing. Speaking following the announcement, the Shadow Minister for North Wales - Mark Isherwood AM - said:
“This seems to be a major step forward, but I’m not holding my breath. As always, the devil’s in the detail.
“The third bridge has been on the agenda for more than a decade, and a consultation in 2007 commissioned by the Labour-Plaid Cymru Government came up with eight options to ease traffic backlog on the Britannia Bridge. Yet the Welsh Government did nothing.
“Only last year we were told that this bridge could be completed by 2021, but today’s announcement states that it won’t even start until then, and there’s still a lot of final details to be clarified in between.
“To ensure that this proposal doesn’t get kicked into the long grass until after the next Assembly election, the Welsh Government must commit to having trucks on site by 2021”.
