Following a letter from the First Minister to the Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for the Economy and Transport today (18 December) regarding a possible breach of government rules over funding for a bus service in a Ministers own constituency, Russell George AM said:
“It is alarming that the Welsh Government’s Director of Governance and Ethics has stated that against the high standard of personal Ministerial responsibility set by the Ministerial Code, provisions were not fully observed.”
Mr George, the Shadow Minister for Economy and Transport, had written to the First Minister in October, following concerns raised with him that Mr Skates’ actions may have conflicted with the provisions of the Ministerial Code that Ministers must keep separate their roles as Minister and Assembly Member.
Mr George concluded:
“It is clear that this case has highlighted serious shortcoming in Welsh Government official processes, and lessons need to be learnt.”
