Paul Davies AM, Leader of the Opposition in the Welsh Parliament, this evening (December 16) welcomed the news that Simon Hart MP has been made Secretary of State for Wales.
Mr Davies, who represents Preseli Pembrokeshire, said:
“This is a key post, and I am delighted that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has made this appointment.
“Simon’s extensive background in many aspects of rural affairs, and experience as an MP on a number of Parliamentary committees, will stand him in good stead for the challenging work the Welsh Office will bring.”
The Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire MP, who studied at the Royal Agricultural College, and practised as a chartered surveyor, also lists a seven-year period in the Territorial Army, and was Chairman and Chief Executive of the Countryside Alliance.
Mr Davies continued:
“His experience as an MP and his close working relationship with colleagues from council to Assembly to Parliament will ensure that Wales - now with 14 Conservative MPs - will have a strong voice and a passionate advocate to carry on speaking up for Wales in Westminster.”
